Health care settings The public health system of NL Health Services consists of five zones including Eastern Urban, Eastern Rural, Central, Western, and Labrador Grenfell. When accessing mental health services in the public health system, you will be referred to a specific program that best suits your reason for referral. Within this program, you may be paired with a psychologist or another mental health professional depending on your presentation, reason for referral, and resourcing within the program. Psychologists can be accessed through the public health system, the education system for those currently enrolled, and in private practice.

K-12 Schools

You can reach the specific School Psychologist assigned to your child’s school through your school. You may also go to https://www.nlschools.ca/contact/staffdirectory.jsp then type in the lower search bar “psychologist” for a list of psychologists by geographic region.

University Students

For students of Memorial University of Newfoundland- St John’s campus, you may access a psychologist or other mental health professional through the Student Wellness and Counseling Centre. For more information about this service, please follow this link: https://www.mun.ca/studentwellness/

Private practice

Psychologists in private practice provide a fee-for-service model. Fees are often covered through private insurance plans and/or workplace EAP (Employee Assistance Program). As of the APNL AGM Friday May 27, 2022, the recommended fee is $210/hour for individual treatment provided by a Registered Psychologist. Please note that some Psychologists may charge higher or lower fees.
